The following photo sums up the boredom and waiting around of a hospital stay. So very grateful for modern medicine and doctors who act quickly. Our Friday started with me picking up our middle child to go to the doctor and ended up with a referral to Accident and Emergency at the Children's Hospital in Bristol, followed by being admitted for two and a half days. She didn't feel awful and wasn't in pain, which made sitting around in bed for that amount of time 'so boring'.
A sore ear for weeks, followed by intense swelling of the ear and behind it, had lead to concerns of mastoiditis, which is when the infection spreads to the bone behind the ear, i.e. the skull. Without antibiotics this could be quite serious and in years past children could die, so boredom in hospital seemed a small, reassuring price to pay. She was well taken care of and will need a follow up to check her hearing, but we are praying there will be no long term problems as a result, and that it was all caught in time.

2018 Lifestyle Project - Week 11

My youngest is a little camera resistant these days (sigh). She doesn't understand how quickly she is growing up and how desperately I want to remember all the details. In this case how she still loves dressing up. World Book Day was over a week ago, but her school recognized it this past Friday. I have yet to replace my sewing machine, which I sold before our move from the States, so I was limited in time and resources and she was stumped for ideas, so we had to recycle. It was a stretch. She had a parrot costume I had made previously so we decided she could be either the parrot from Treasure Island or we felt sure there must have been a parrot in a Dr Doolittle book somewhere!
She wore it the rest of the day after she got home too, albeit with the hood down. So cute seeing her wander around like that, doing all the normal things...as a parrot. It definitely added some colour to our day, so no turning this one to black and white.

2018 Lifestyle Project - Week 10

It was another one of those weeks where the weather wasn't great and being stuck indoors with no pretty light is just so uninspiring. Then yesterday was Mother's Day, here in the UK and suddenly I was banished from the kitchen so the kids could work on projects and cook lunch, to give me some time off...lovely. I did sneak in at one point, which is when I grabbed this one; working together and needing to keep surprises secret, I just love it and the bond they still share.

-
This is my sweet spunky girl who does nothing by halves. She gets things done...all the time. She is creative and doesn't shy from new things. I love that I still get morning cuddles from her and that she listens to her body and knows when she's tired and it's time to stop. She is amazing in so many ways and I can't believe she's becoming a grown up before my eyes! She is a challenge and a joy and I wouldn't have it any other way.
- She's not a fan of cake, mainly because she doesn't enjoy icing or frosting, so her usual request is for pavlova, which works perfectly well too.
- Love you my Bryttain Sage and everything about you 😘
