The following photo sums up the boredom and waiting around of a hospital stay. So very grateful for modern medicine and doctors who act quickly. Our Friday started with me picking up our middle child to go to the doctor and ended up with a referral to Accident and Emergency at the Children's Hospital in Bristol, followed by being admitted for two and a half days. She didn't feel awful and wasn't in pain, which made sitting around in bed for that amount of time 'so boring'.
A sore ear for weeks, followed by intense swelling of the ear and behind it, had lead to concerns of mastoiditis, which is when the infection spreads to the bone behind the ear, i.e. the skull. Without antibiotics this could be quite serious and in years past children could die, so boredom in hospital seemed a small, reassuring price to pay. She was well taken care of and will need a follow up to check her hearing, but we are praying there will be no long term problems as a result, and that it was all caught in time.
